"Oh God, please tell me that Carl sent me back to Kile. Please," this thought echoed in my head.
I waited to hear, once more, the sweet song of the nightingale, waited to feel the cool wind on my face, waited to smell the honeysuckle mixed with pine. All the things I had grown to love and had come to miss. I waited, and then, the ground shook and the smell of something burning reached my nose. Another shake of the ground made me decide to get up.
The glen that Kile and I had first met in on that beautifully, scary night, was no more. Instead of weeping willows, pine trees and maple trees, all covered in sweet honeysuckle, there was nothing but tree stumps and the smell of smoke.
I stood there lost and confused, when the same voice I had grown to love, spoke, "Saty, what are doing here? Why haven't you written?"

First time to the Glen
The first thing I heard was the song of the nightingale. How I wanted to stay there and listen to the beautiful song. The wind was moving through the trees bringing with it the sweet scent of honeysuckle. "Wait, honeysuckle? There's no honeysuckle in Miami!"
My eyes popped open, my body sat straight up and I looked around. I was in a bed of soft moss, surrounded by pine trees covered in honeysuckle. The cool breeze gently floated by and the sun was saying its first good-mornings as the light filtered through the trees. The nightingale had finished its song for the moment and the only thing I heard was the sound of my beating heart.
"Oh my gosh. He actually did it. He sent me back. I wonder where the Nicht Flooer homestead is?"
My thoughts were interrupted by the sound of moving feet. I listened as the feet came to a stop within inches of where I sat. My breath came short and fast and I sure that whoever it was could hear my heart pounding in my shaking chest. My mind and body prepared for a scream, when the unknown person whispered, "Satyana, is that really you? After all this time?"
My mind was racing. "How did he know my name and what in the world is he talking about?"
The voice again whispered, "Saty, are you ok?"
"I don't know. Where am I?" I replied quietly.
"Close to home," he said as he stepped into the open. He was almost six feet tall with a body built for work but he seemed to possess an extraordinary intelligence. I don't know why. Maybe it was the way he held himself or the power behind the voice, or what. I just don't know.
"Come on. Let me take you home," he said as he scooped me up off the forest floor. This man carried me as if I was a feather in his arms. Light enough to carry and too easily lost. Enveloped in his arms, all i could do was breathe in the smell of this mysterious man. He smelled of sweat mixed with the morning dew, of sweet earth and to be honest, he smelled more intoxicating than anything else, except maybe vanilla candles.
Moments later, I caught sight of a beautiful mansion which from pictures I knew to be Nicht Flooer, or Night Flower. Why it was called that, I couldn't say. The man carrying me continued right on up to the house, if you could call it that, ignoring the shouts of astonishment from all around. Little did I know who they thought I was.

Civil Love opening
"Now, even though the Civil War was about many things, most people assume slavery and racism was the main issue. In fact, slavery was....."
"Why am I here, listening to her drone on and on?? I mean, come on, whites are so much better, no matter what. Do blacks really think they can compete?? I mean, get real, whites are smarter..."
Both the teacher's words and my thoughts were interrupted by the final bell rang. I got up, grabbed my books, and was headed to make a quick escape when Mrs. Resker, my civics teacher, interrupted me.
"Saty, I noticed you were daydreaming in class again. What about the Civil War do you not find so interesting?? And please, be honest."
Rather begrudgingly, I dropped my books on the desk next to me, and turned around. "What I find so uninteresting," I said with every word oozing with sarcasm and scorn,"is that you were talking about how equal we all are and you and I both know how full of BS that is."
"I happen to actually believe that all people, regardless of race, age and color, are equal. We will continue this discussion on Monday."
With these final words from my teacher culminating with the warning bell for the buses, I raced to the yellow bus where I would spend the next hour before getting home. The one upside to this seemingless never-ending journey was that my best friend, Jess, lived in the apartment, sorry, condo, upstairs and therefore rode the bus. At least for now.
I barely made it to the bus and time and wormed my way to Jess' side. Our conversation revolved around her new GT convertible, the party at her place the next day and of course, school, but more importantly, schoolwork.
"Sooo, what did Mrs. Resker want this time? Any additions or just talk?" Jess asked. Jess was referring to Mrs. Resker's adding homework to whomever, whenever.
Now before I go further, let me describe Jess for you. She was your normal blond-haired, blue eyed cheerleader known for her parties and her hook-ups. She was also, unfortunately, the one I looked to for anything.
"Just talk, thankfully," I replied. "She thinks I'm too, hmm, selective, about what I like in people. Anyways, Jedi will be out of town tomorrow (Jedi referring to my mother) so I'll totally be up at your place!"
"Awesome! Yeah, Drew is gonna be there and we are totally on!"
"You mean, Jess, you're gonna do it with Drew tomorrow?! OMG!"
